Krokodýl (Czech Crocodile Bread)

Crocodile bread made from yeast dough is a fun and tasty bake that will delight children and adults alike. We prepare the dough in a bread machine on the Dough programme and after it has risen, roll it out into a rectangle. The filling of leek, English bacon and Niva cheese gives the crocodile a unique flavour. We bake it until golden and serve it as a snack or for breakfast.

Method

01.

Prepare the dough in a bread machine on the Dough programme. After it has risen, set aside a small piece of dough for the legs and eyes. Roll out the rest into a rectangle the size of a baking tray, trim the corners slightly, and cut along the longer sides with a pastry wheel. Place the filling of your choice in the centre – I used leek, English bacon and Niva cheese (you can also fill it with apples, just add a little more sugar to the dough). Fold the cut strips over each other.

02.

Transfer to the baking tray and shape the head – fold the edges over each other and flatten with your hand, curl the tail.

03.

From the remaining dough, shape the legs, cut the toes and form the eyes. You can place, for example, olives in the indentations.

04.

Using scissors, snip teeth on the snout and spikes along the body.

05.

Brush with beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven for about 35 minutes.
