These dumplings made from grated raw potatoes take just twenty minutes to prepare and can easily stand in for a modest supper. All you need to add is a piece of smoked meat, some fried onion or bryndza. You only need potatoes, flour, baking powder and salt.
Prepare the dough: Peel the raw potatoes and grate them on a tear-drop grater. Squeeze out the released juice, season with salt, add the flour with the baking powder and mix everything well.
Shape the chlupáčky: Form small rolls or balls, simply whatever shapes you like, and drop them into boiling water.
Cooking: After about 7 minutes the dumplings will float to the surface, but leave them on a low heat for another 3 minutes to finish.
Serving: Then take the dumplings out, let them drain and serve them either as a side dish with various cuts of meat, or on their own with fried onion, bacon, bryndza and the like.
