Mashed potatoes don't have to be a plain, boring side dish. We flavour ours with a pinch of ground nutmeg, which brings out the taste of the potatoes beautifully. And if any is left over from lunch, simply shape spoonfuls into dumplings and serve them in the evening with ground poppy seeds, sugar and melted butter as an improvised version of Czech skubanky.
