Looking for quick and impressive party food? These twisted savory puff pastry sticks are perfect for a celebration or a cozy evening in front of the TV. Chef Roman Paulus shows how to make so-called twist sticks, for which you only need puff pastry, pesto to taste and a good cheese – ideally Parmesan. The preparation is incredibly easy and the result is eye-catching twisted sticks that will surprise your guests.
Finely grate the Parmesan and cut the puff pastry into thirds.
Brush the first third with basil pesto and sprinkle with half of the grated Parmesan.
Cover with the second third of pastry, then brush it with tomato pesto and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Cover the layers with the last third of pastry, press lightly and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
Cut the chilled layered pastry into sticks about 1 cm thick and twist them. Press the ends so they do not open easily, then transfer them to a baking sheet.
Brush the pastry on the sheet with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake in an oven preheated to 210 °C for 10-15 minutes until golden brown on the fan setting.
